NEW YORK STATE NOTARY ASSOCIATION

To whom it may concern:

I have been leasing meeting space from the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia for several years to conduct Notary Public licensing training courses. This is a prime-time hotel with apparent high occupancy whenever I am there. I therefore assume they turn a nice profit. These hotel workers are proud, hard working people that raise families on near poverty wages. Their mandatory payroll deductions for medical insurance at work is so high, that they can't afford it. The Crowne Plaza LaGuardia ownership has no valid business or moral excuse to neglect their family of employees. I subsequently will not patronize this hotel again.

TWU 556 - THE UNION OF SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLIGHT ATTENDANTS

"Throughout the four year negotiation, the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia has been found guilty of numerous Unfair Labor Practices ... I respectfully request that Southwest Airlines not enter into a contract with any hotel that ... has committed Unfair Labor Practices."

- Thom McDaniel, TWU Local 556 President

To:
Vice President Inflight Services
Southwest Airlines Company

Dear Mike,

I have recently been notified that Southwest Airlines may be in negotiations with the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia as a potential crew hotel.

The Crowne Plaza LaGuardia has been in negotiations with the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council Local 6 for over four years and has failed to reach a fair contract that provides wages comparable with other hotels in the area, affordable healthcare for employees, safe and clean working conditions with adequate cleaning supplies, and secure pensions.

Throughout the four year negotiation, the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia has been found guilty of numerous Unfair Labor Practices prompting an Unfair Labor Practices Strike and Boycott of the hotel.

On behalf of 150,000 active and retired Members of Transport Workers Union and the 9,700 Members of TWU Local 556, I respectfully request that Southwest Airlines not enter into a contract with any hotel that refuses to bargain fairly with their employees and/or has committed Unfair Labor Practices.

Local 556 made a similar request regarding a SeaTac hotel due to the disruptions in security and service that could put our Crews and operation at risk and it was granted. We ask that you also honor this request until the dispute at the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia is resolved and a fair contract if reached.

Thank you.

Thom McDaniel
TWU Local 556 President

"As a company, we cannot support businesses that do not provide industry standards. We chose to exercise our conscience in spite of any economic consequences."

- Marcel Wah, Conference Organizer
"I was disturbed to learn about the ongoing labor dispute at the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia. The management of the hotel told me nothing of it when I booked the Caribbean Art Conference. Luckily, I was referred by a union member to the workers’ website and was immediately moved to action as I watched the testimonials describing the working conditions in the hotel.

The decision to pull the event, beyond question, rest with the fact that many Caribbean employees are affected, and this directly impact our target audience.

I agree with the values of the workers, many of them from the Caribbean and of Caribbean descent, and their fight for economic justice. I felt it wise to support the workers and not entangle our supporters in a labor dispute. The workers have my respect as they struggle to win affordable health, industry standard wage, and retire with dignity.

As a company, we cannot support businesses that do not provide industry standards. We chose to exercise our conscience in spite of any economic consequences."
